E3 showing Empty E3 showing

Post by Nightwing Fri Jul 19, 2013 4:08 am

I have the subscription for Game Informer, and in the latest issue, it described the situation with the "Big Three" of game publishers: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
What I saw is not promising.

Microsoft's new XBOX One is probably the worst of the bunch: When it was first announced, it was slated as needing an "Always on" internet connection, meaning that in order to do ANYTHING, you'd need the internet. It was also impossible to trade games on it (Something about an authentication code...? Eh, idk.). And finally, the price: I refuse to shell out $400 for anything except a car or bike. (And even then...)

Sony was the best of the three with a $300 price tag, tradeable games, and offline play.

I dunno WHAT Nintendo was doing. No reveals after the Wii U's massive flop? What the heck?

So, to recap: Microsoft f--ks up, Sony's on the ball, and Nintendo's staring into space.

Huh. Sounds like our current worldwide situation: Governments trash everything, about ten people worldwide question it, another ten are reduced to tears at worldwide stupidity, and everyone else goes on as if all is well.

I can tell you this: All is NOT well...

Yeah, i did a lot of research on this console a couple of months ago when it was leaked.

Most the games are D/L only almost killing the secondhand market, and each game needs a special unique code that is tied to the actual disk itself. It has to be activated to a console to be able to play, which is where the always on connection comes to play. Once the code/disk/console have been registered to each other the game is then playable.

HOWEVER, this also means that that disk can NEVER be used by another console as the code as already been registered. Completely killing the second hand market Sad

IMHO i think microsoft has been one the decline since the original 360 and the "rrod".

Sony is substandard imo.

Nintendo only ever did 2 goos consoles, Super nintendo and N64.

Pc gaming is by far the best platform, it costs a lot more to set up but as the games progress and get better you dont need to buy a new console, just new componants.

All is sumarized into this comic CAD

Well at least now u dont have to pay for a subscription to internet to Xbox one (free finallly), also Xbox is trying to appeal to grown ups as a complete multimedia center. Personally i have never owned a console, ive been a pc gamer all my life, so i wont loose sleep about this war.

+1 i think MS is paranoid about piracy and to be honest i don't blame them lol, everybody here has a Xbox 360 with all the games being illegal copies

as for sony i guess nothing more can be said they are substandard

nintendo well they used to rule with the super nintendo but then i think the decline started with the nintendo 64, don't get me wrong it was and it is a superb console but the price of the cartridges and the fact that the ps1 with 32 bits had less polygons in their games, and the huge variety of titles and low prices for the CDs was the killing blow for nintendo and the rise to the top for sony, today their consoles are wierd and only for die hard fans of the company or ppl who like to try new things

as for PC gaming i couldn't agree more with you keyboards are far better than joysticks in my opinion and you always have control over your machine if somethings breaks you can replace it with no problem, you don't get the ''rrod'' you don't have to buy a new machine if 1 or more components stop working, i have a 10 years old PC and i can still run the latest games in hight to medium quality

The only systems that I have are the computer, and a six year old Wii...

It almost seems like Nintendo is a test bed for system gimmicks: The Wiimotes were ripped off by the substandard PSMove and Kinect, while the DS's touch screen is being emulated by the Vita and the new PS4 controller.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo does have some good stuff, but it still needs work.

Hell, the first video game/system that I ever got was a GBA SP with Pokemon Sapphire...
That's what got me hooked on gaming. It's not an addiction that I'm looking to break...

kinect is not the same as PSMove or the like; kinect works by sampling distance with a pre-positioned distribution of tiny infra-red dots (or so ive read - depth buffer as an input, if you're familiar with GFX programming). but i digress...

had a second-hand calliquo vision (sp?) when i was 4, SNES was the flavor until age 10. at 10 i was given a playstation and my own computer, and had friends with N64's... since then i do not recall a time without games (console or PC) at arms length. (still own that same ps1, still have my ps2, didn't buy an xbox because it was cliche and couldn't stand consoles released afterwards for various reasons with nintendo's GB devices being an exception).

state of gaming (in terms of titles released) have been trending down for years imo. say what you want but bratz sing-along karaoke for ps2 is where i draw the line between 'acceptable genres that may not be for everyone' and 'atari-ET-grade crap'. even without blatant interactive marketing passing for games (throw in back-of-envelope miracles that are 95% of movie themed games too while at it) the last oooh... 6-7 years or so have been mostly ripoffs and trite platitudinous attempts at originality (call of duty anyone? never forget MOH for ps1 and that MOHAA used quake3 engine. never forget!) but i will admit there have been ample select titles worth spending money on though not so many an average income couldn't afford to buy them all as they came out.

best stop there; could rant for hours about this.

My first gaming system was also a ColecoVision.

Not particularly impressed with the "features" of any of the new consoles. Microsoft hosed themselves while PS4 said nothing and came out on top because of it.
Nintendo has backed themselves into a corner as a party-game console for kids & casual gamers. They can't seem to decide whether to make new games or remake old games (again), but it's all irrelevant if they can't lay off sniffing petrol fumes and chewing on the furniture.
