i find myself playing this because i love flying and shooting around when im drunk, but i keep messing up ppls games because i got no clue what im doing besides flying around boulders and trying to shoot the enemy...
so, game types, noob tactics, how to use my right mouse missile, can i heal when i fly through my mothership and where do i read if i do heal, regain boost/shield.... all the noob questions.

i looked for a forum and found this, i apologize if i didnt look hard enough, but would still like some answers to get more into this game...

Heya Murdeoc, mate, don't be sorry at all -- everyone's gotta start somewhere. At least you give a crap about finding out the stuff and doing it right! Very Happy

First of all: Check out the Pilot's Primer (link). Scroll down to the Game-Types and Maps. Also scroll down to the Game-controls. In fact, take a look at the entire thing -- it's a lot of reading but also answers a lot of basic questions about the game.

What ship/s are you flying? If you're in an F-3 Mamba, your right-mouse missile is a dumb fire rocket which means you gotta be really close to the target and fire that rocket dead on. If the thin-grey circle in the middle of your screen goes red after 2-3 seconds, you've probably got a lock-on missile of some sort, so when the grey-circle turns red after a lock-on graphic, hit that right-mouse button. If you're in a bomber of some sort and fire a torpedo or nuclear warhead, those things take 4-5 seconds to arm after you fire. Once they're armed, you can either let them hit their target or click the right-mouse button again to detonate.

Ships' health regenerates gradually over time. In a brand-new ship that's got no upgrades whatsoever this can be quite slow as to seem almost non-existent. In the image below, ships' health is smack-bang at the bottom of the screen in the middle.

There is currently no other way to regenerate your health other than waiting for it to rebuild over time, so if you're low, hide behind an asteroid or run back to your carrier/team-mates; in this game though, especially if you're starting out - don't worry about dying - you re-spawn in 10 sec or less. Focus instead on the following:

- don't ever, ever, ever fly in a straight line
- don't use-up all your after-burner/boost (spacebar) in one go; tap it lightly, at the same rate you would hit the backspace key to erase something.
- when you shoot at another player, aim for where they're going, not where they are -- the targeting cross-hairs/reticule should turn red when you're at the sweet spot

- and there's heaps more tips and tricks over in the Helpful Hints for Newbies thread (link).

Best of luck Pilot!

read it and tnx for the feedback
i might come up w more questions later but i'll give the forum a decent read-through before i post.

anyway maybe there is a way to make this post https://moonbreakers.forumotion.com/t71-pilot-primer-for-in-game-controls-factions-rankings
more accesible?

also grats to the ppl that made it!

[edit] ow also how do you destroy a carrier? ive ben close sometimes, but before targets get red i usually die... is a team effort to divert and attack or are there tactics/ specific weapons to hit and run?

More accessible? In what sense? For yourself? Or for the people who haven't seen it yet?

Any feedback on the Primer is appreciated -- if it's good, too wordy, answered most of your questions, which ones it didn't answer, any bits of it that're confusing? Trying to make it as new-user-friendly as possible while remembering what impressions/questions I had when I first started playing.

To destroy a carrier:

- if you're in a fighter the secondary weapons, specifically rockets/missiles (eg. dumb fire rockets on the Mamba, Kingfisher, etc) can be used to distract the turrets away from you while you use your primary weapons' gun-fire or laser-beam to take out the turrets. Don't ever fly head-on at a turret; approach on an angle. Also, practice practice practice.

- if you're in a bomber, which bomber are you flying and is it fully upgraded? Your main focus as a bomber is firing off the nukes/torps in such a way that 1) they evade turret fire from launch/arming sequence/to impact on the carrier, 2) staying alive long enough for that torp to re-load and fire again. Pop-quiz hot-shot: How long does it take your torp to reload?

Staying alive means flying, hiding, saving boost for when you need it, damaging the turrets as you pass any -- if you survive long enough to do a few circuits you can destroy those within 2-3 passes, and a dead turret means one part of the carrier that won't cause damage to you as you travel along it.

The turrets INSIDE the carriers are indestructible, so don't waste time trying to shoot them down -- just dodge/keep moving past them.

Winning Carrier Assault should be a team effort -- though some of the Aces of [TP] and [DMHS] are able to do this almost single-handedly -- with team-players on:

— Defense in fighters that have the fire-power and instincts to intercept/hunt/destroy bombers at their home carrier, and
— Offense in bombers attacking the enemy carrier with 1-2 bomber escorts peeling off the defenders attacking the bombers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSccBQ2iZp0

The vid above features one of the best ships in the game, but the strategy/movements are still the same no matter what bomber you're flying.

Also, if you're attacking a carrier that's got really strong or skilled defense, yer gonna die. Fact. It'll take several re-spawns and bombing runs, and even then you still might fall short if your own team isn't defending as heavily, or attacking the carrier. Sometimes, you just get out-gunned and deaded Rolling Eyes

Complex Lain doesn't like it when I defend my carrier on a good day... Laughing

If any of you bomber-experts have anything to add, fer the love of gravy, please do!

cool, ive just been playing again and your helping out big time!

with accessible i meant i would have liked to have found the threads i just read by googling it, that is not on you guys, but it is kind of on the dev's... this game is good, let other ppl find out about it without having to register for this forum.
once again, i'm glad i did and glad you have this forum, but on most games i wouldve passed it by because i didnt get the game info (basic shit that should be ingame) ...

brilliant movie also and it just showed me which of the uplighting targets on an enemy carrier are actually targets and how to hit them without dying because your flying into them...

ill be playing more, but dont expect me to get to active here.. i'm kinda forgeting about the soada forum now...

Glad to be of assistance, mate Very Happy

Google-accessibility has come up before I think, something to do with meta-tags and entering the side into the google index... hopefully the forum-owner or one of the other senior admins can confirm if this has been looked at or not.

Play the game however you like, so long as you have fun while doing so; and it's perfectly fine to lurk on these forums Razz

ow i just realised i did find this forum by googling about moonbreakers, so the forum is pretty accesible... and since that particular post is a sticky in the gameplay section i think your good!
[edit] also, is there a way to team up w specific ppl, i'd like some friends to join me in this game, but i'm not sure how valuable that would be if we dont get to play together anyway.
and an out of game chat, does it exist?

The Developers of the game are currently working on a team/clan/squadron feature, hopefully it will be out soon. As far as an out of game chat, Snubby has graciously opened a Ventrillo Chat for us. You can find the details to using it here

There's also an IRC Chat that you can use via browser window: https://moonbreakers.forumotion.com/t108-moon-breakers-irc-chat

But I'm not sure who/how often it gets used to be honest; most of us use the vent-chat.
