Not Moonbreakers
Star Conflict...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxJctZWWayc
Private beta right now, no idea when they'll open it up. Will be free to play - same model as MB. Not guns-in-space but more futuristic, and unsure of combat model as the pilot in that video would have died a quick death had he flown like that in MB.
Other than that ... wow, the eye candy ...
I do hope that IMBA have a great update in store for us soon & look at ways to enhance the speed at which new content is developed and added to the game.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Note: The first 17 seconds of the video seem to show the "Lobby" with a Game-Launch/Respawn Timer at the center-top, and what looks like real-time player movements on a tactical map display. Pretty neat. Then it goes into ship-in-space mode.
Definitely eye-candy, the laser-fire sounds puny though. Shields/Damage Hit effect is sweet, and the central HUD indicators are a good way of showing all the important ship-info front/center though what they indicate might not be immediately intuitive for some players.
Some people might not favor the POV setup they have, preferring an 'in cockpit' first-person view rather than the zoomed-out 3rd person.
Overall also appears to involve much less "acrobatics" in general; from the video (or this particular player's demonstration) game-play occurs at a much more... deliberate pace. So yeah, who knows if that's just a basic demo/first-look or the actual combat-model as longshot said.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
It could also be a bunch of players with the skill equivalent of Rhino torp-spammers. They promise 1st-person-view in the future, guess that sounds familiar
I'm not pushing this game by any means, only just heard about it & I'm hooked on MB. Its good to see another free space MMO in the works though. I didn't like the appearance of it all being killing at a distance, the enemy being little trangles around a barely-visible dot. MB is great in that you really can (and should) get in close & see the whites of their eyes.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Maybe the genre's coming back en force! ...and will result in a revival of the Wing Commander franchise (they're rebooting everything these days, after all) and get LucasArts (?) off their arse to release another X-Wing/TIE-Fighter game.
Still, what Moon Breakers really has going for it at the moment is it's free, versatile in that it's easy to log-in/log-out for a quick game or have a whole-day session, relatively quick and easy to grasp the basics (in terms of "fly around and shoot stuff!") with finesse/technique coming in later, and it's helluva lotta fun.
Just needs more actual content/social capability!

Re: Not Moonbreakers
just from looking at a bit of the vid i got bored the speed is soooooooooooo slow compared to MB and like longshot said, any pilot who flies that strait in a chase, becomes a target. the lack of acrobatics is a major downside and the way that you can turn on a dime just takes away from the challenge so unless those change i don't think it could beat out moon breakers.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Pretty much. It can look as pretty as it likes, with all the bells and whistles, but if the game-pace is boring as bat-guano, then no win. Not from the Jazzy, anyway

Too slow doesn't appeal to me. Although the eye candy is great. reminds me of vendetta online.

...and we get contrails in MB, which make formation-flying all the more fun/challenging!

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Looks fancy, but really too slow compare to MB. Although the map is great, I like MB more for the simplicity and fast dogfight.
Really hope the dev of MB can roll out something new and exciting in faster pace. There isn't any new stuff for over a month already.

Imagine what it was like for the Veterans in the Google-Chrome age, how long did you guys go for with only 2 maps, etc?

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Pretty but seems slow.
Also, would be afraid that it takes *any* sort of inspiration from WoT.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Here's another one, actually as a BSG fan I've been watching this for years.
Diaspora has been released
Volunteer labour-of-love project, completely free to play, concentrates on single player atm with LAN or IP-based multi (future releases will expand on the multiplayer side of things).
My torrent download is running, looking forward to playing this at last & hoping it won't be a massive disappointment.

Re: Not Moonbreakers
Have made it halfway through the tutorial. First impression, quality is very professional (WAY beyond MB), eye candy is awesome too. Second impression ... my that's a ton of key commands to remember, and it was a pain in the neck setting the roll keys the same as MB's. Third impression ... I'll think I'll play MB some more and come back to it later.

It did my head in, looked like someone swallowed some paint followed by a hand grenade, managed to shite himself before he exploded over a Jackson Pollock painting.......
