Cheers
Hello everyone,
The name is Ratcharmer. Have my 30 second bio while you're at it:
-I just recently earned my 4th stripe by fully upgrading my G5 (at least I think that's what it was for). I currently fly the G5 almost exclusively since it's not only the only non-free ship I own but also the only fully upgraded ship I own.
-I work very hard at remembering to thank people when they shoot someone off my six. Sorry if I've missed thanking you.
-I DESPISE homing missiles. I hate playing against them, and I hate using them (I feel like they're overpowered, yet awkward and unsatisfying to use). No offense intended to those of you who use them.
Guess that's all. If you want to know something else ask away.

You have been around here for a while lol
Ranks are based on level (progress bars after a match), so you just hit lvl 50; congrats!

Welcome. Feel free to give me G5 Dogfighting lessons. I use it for Turrets and CTF. I can take on a ship or two, but the G5's speed and turn is the only thing that keeps me from being killed, NOT my prowess with it

On S&D you will probably never get as many kills with the G5 as you would with a more firepower-oriented ship. The Kingfisher's main strength is, as you pointed out, it's survival ability. Since Moonbreakers doesn't keep track of deaths, often times people overlook that preventing the other team from getting kills is every bit as important as getting kills for your team. As a G5 pilot I frequently end S&D missions only around 5 kills 5 assists, but I'll still have a hefty bounty on my head simply because I never died the whole battle.
As far as dogfighting goes--avoid it if you can. The G5 can dogfight but other fighters will have a decisive advantage over you if you dive into the furball. Instead I usually dance around the edges of the fight and try to catch people with their pants down. If someone engages me I find it's often more effective to break away and try to kite them than to dogfight (depending on what they're flying).
To kite someone: simply let them get good and tied up in chasing you then fly to the pretty green icons. Frequently you'll deliver a lone enemy into half your team under the guns of your carrier. You won't get much credit for it, but it can be surprisingly effective at turning the tide in S&D matches, especially once you have a bounty.
All that said, there probably are more than a few on the forum who actually could just dive into the furball in a G5 and stack up 20 kills without breaking a sweat. Listen to what they say before what I say.

Jiel. Except the number used in your example is too low.

the humble sidewinder falls into this category too (fast, medium to med-low dps) - if you don't finish one off, it will be back in 20-30 seconds with close-to-full boost and full shields.ratcharmer wrote:*Stands at lecture podium*Can-Swiss wrote:Welcome.
