Is Broken Moon Broken?

Post by MJ on Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:46 am

I think all the maps on Moon Breakers are pretty cool. I especially like Broken Moon. It has the perfect combination of lots of nooks and crannies to skulk around in and wide open spaces to take advantage of beam weapons and long range missles.
In Search and Destroy, I've recently noticed more teams will just park in front of their carrier and pick off the enemy as they trickle in. Now I understand when you have one stripe by your name and you like to stick to the carrier for safety, but if you have four stripes by your name, you need to gather up your teammates and bring the fight to the enemy.
When one team parks like this, the game tends to be lopsided and boring. I've seen several episodes where more then half the opposite team will just leave a few minutes into the game.
Don't take this post as a rant against teamwork or a need to change a map. I just want more people to mix it up in the middle.

Yeah, Plus, Camping like this is cowardly and true warrior should charge in like a hurricane, delivering righteous fury! .....or die in cool explosion, win-win

Sadly, I have to agree. It's my favourite maps, but when the opposition camps under their carrier (on any map), gameplay grinds to a halt.

Praetorians actually have a rule against this kind of camping, by the way...

The broken moon could be broken up slightly more, with less open space around the moon and more through-holes to the core from the outside; some of the solid surfaces are a little too solid.

yes , the point is right , and also bit more wide in that map , since is the one wher one loose the wiew on what other team mates are doing inside the broken moon or in the other side of it.
many situation can lead to a bad balance , not only the case wher most if not all players stay at wait in cover , gaining the respawn time also if they die so that the veterans can usually get upper hand easy wile some player need to be back in the fight so far.
other situation is when many newplayer go like kamikaze toward enemy base and keep doing , i sow even some doing ther and not even try to shoot down enemy , but just shooting in space or toward carrier also befor they get in range to hit that , that will cause a great imbalance , even more than a serius incursion made by some player in team work.

carrier campers were always a flaw in S&D it just suck seriously even if you are in the camping team dont expect to get wingmans or any other support from your team if you decide to go hunting since they are too busy hidding in their carrier

I hate Broken Moon. As I fly the slowest boat it takes me ages to fly to the other side of the map. Maybe I will appreciate it more once I have saved up for something speedy....I can then save my A80 for broadside...

Carrier camping in broken moon is easily dealt with. Set up a counter-camp inside the moon on the surface facing the carrier. This is important. Play tight to the inside edge of the moon popping over to rocket and missile the other side to draw them in. Think like an archer in a castle. pop over the side, select target, fire, duck behind cover. What you want the enemy team to do is chase you into the moon where hopefully you have teammates. If they stay in the open space between the moon and the carrier they're suckers for missile boats. If you cross the open space you are the sucker for a missile boat so don't cross unless you're in a zerg or letting a bomber lead to suck up turret fire.

When you've had three or four good kills on a run that's the time to charge the moon, ignore players and hit turrets. A carrier without turrets is a liability in S&D because it launches you into clear space and missile boats cruising on top of your disabled carrier love enemy ships in clear space.

I'm going to regret posting this but people would have figured it out eventually anyway.

When there's a stubborn camping team, particularly one with better pilots & ships so there's no hope of winning anyway, I just switch to an F3-X and go on a turret killing spree. Nothing's more frustrating to a bunch of smug campers than having to chase an elusive little sprite around their carrier & watch turrets going pop.

i agree !
longshots tactic is very nice and psychological stressing - but one thing i see - is that this method keeps the camper on the camping site.
But its is a good method to save teammates too.

What i like most in this situation is switching to a bomber -
just fly in and save ur booster fuel.
Then fire into this red ball of enemies and launch torpedos to get some hits and more important attention.
Make sure u have at least 2-3 Fighters sticking on ur butt before boosting to the middle where reinforcements can join.
Normally at least 2 pilots will follow you and they will pull again 2 or 3 additional to leave the "green zone".
This even works better if u have a bounty set on ur head.
Iam sure to a lot of u this tactic is not "new"
People are soo easy to catch with bounty - and most of them (specially the new players) will hunt you till ur carrier if necessary.
I am fine with that Smile
Its like the tactic Quantum Razor showed but i do not make kills befor i go fishing .... i want to get noticed and hunted directly and play with this attention.

Camping in CTF is OK for me like just a safety guard - in CA u also def your carrier ... in S&D it really sucks and gives a lot of disadvantages. The best pilot can not neutralize the outcome if everyone is just boosting into the enemy flak-area spawn spot - especially new players have no chance in this situation.

And i guess u all know this situation that on def provokes another def so at some point in time u have 15 ships in front of each carrier and noone in the middle.
Booooooorring .......

If Longshot destroyed all front turrets with his F3-X camping becomes tooo dangerous due to torpedo bombing ...

Have fun
Very Happy

Really the maps need to be slightly modified depending on the game type, in SnD it would be great if the carriers had their noses inside the moon.

A magic thing happened a week ago. I would have written about it earlier, but I had to spend a week in Wichita flying a hydrolic box around.
I was playing S&D on the Broken Moon map on the European server. The other team consisted of 6 one stripers in Mambas and 2 four stripers flying A80s. My team was 7 one stripers in Mambas and myself trying to practice in my Cobra (I need a lot of practice in light fighters).
Of course the other team just parked in front of the other carrier, and the A80s started to wrack up big kill counts in their missle spammers. I would pop out of the moon to try and zapp on the Mambas, or boost over to the rear of the A80s and try to collect one of their bounties. I was doing well but I was getting shot down with amazing frequency, and it was looking like they were going to cruise to an easy lopsided win.
About half way through the match, I was at the edge of the moon sniping at the enemy. All of a sudden, my entire team showed up and started a big furball right in front of the enemy carrier. They were channeling pratoreans or something. We ended up camped in front of their carrier. We started to spank them hard. We ended up winning with the lopsided victory. It was sweet, sweet justice.

had a similar thing a few weeks back on broadsides, our group behind by 20 kills with 3 minutes left & broke all the rules by going full-on attack and pushing to the enemy launch ramp, then somehow won by a couple of kills as the time ran out.
