I don't like to brag but,
IBM PC jr.
RGB monitor
10 Meg. external hard drive
The only drawback, I have to hang my corded phone on the modem, and it ties up the phone line. This invariably upsets the wife and she screams at me to get off that damn interweb.

Re: What Are you playing on?
My desktop system's HDD died and I'm still rebuilding it, so now I play on my laptop from work. Recently forced into a Windows 7 "upgrade."
I play with all the Win Aero (windows desktop pixie dust effects) stuff turned off, all graphics settings tuned to "Performance," but my system is sub-par at best, despite what that Windows Performance Scorecard crap tells me (5.5 rating for gaming/graphics, 3.9 for Win Aero).
Windows 7 Enterprise
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz
NVidia Quatro NVS 160M
6GB RAM
I can now play Moonbreakers until 10 or more players arrive, then my framerates drop to single digits, even on Low Graphics setting with some software acceleration on (MSI Afterburner). When I had XP Sp3, I could play a 16v16 match with 15-25 fps.
With less than 10 people, I can play indefinitely and not see any hitches unless I fly through a few smoke clouds.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Re: What Are you playing on?
yes - run it with compatibility mode and disable desktop composition + themes, these are two completely needless 'features' that hog gpu time for some unknown reason...

Vanity that rigs a beast! I'm jealous! I am thinking of upgrading my gtx 580 to the 680 or 690, dunno if its the newer drivers or conflicting drivers but I often get problems with the 580 on win 7. On Ubuntu works like a charm though.

Re: What Are you playing on?
Half the things that I own are taken from my dad (the screens for example, because he's an avid C++ developer and keeps getting free stuff from work). Half the time I get stuff as soon as it's slightly too outdated for him, so I'll be a version behind, but I've been saving heaps and heaps. And now I'm broke. O.o LOL Reason why my computer is a lot more specced than it used to be.howrealistic wrote:Vanity that rigs a beast! I'm jealous! The graphics card that I had before this were two dual 480's. They were already damn good but I upgraded because I really wanted to do more 'hardcore' rendering stuff, play arma 2 on max settings as well as play Civ V in full specs.
On the Dual 480s I was able to play COD MW3 on full specs (even multiplayer and my internet is like dialup), and everything was fine, keeping the fps quite high. Not sure how it would handle games like Dirt, but yeah. BTW I haven't tried the 3 screen connection business that you can do with 'eyefinity'. It's not called the same thing for nvidia of course, but I am yet to try it with 3 30" monitors... I think I might hold that off because it's just too big to be sitting infront of O.o
Yeah I think its the drivers on the 680s. I was searching something along the lines of that before I ordered them. Silly enough I bought them not long before the 690s came out... How could I not realise that the 690s were coming out! I LOVE UBUNTU! OMG that Os is amazing. And the other reason I like it, is for /vim hehe python programming ftw! lol jks. I suck at python haha.
Anyone have any ideas for cooling solutions for me? I have a little bit of money left and I would like to invest in a good cooling solution, as mine is all copper conductor stuff, along with fans on the case... Is $300 enough? It's my last lot of money and I don't mind spending it on a cooling solution if there's good options available at that price.

Re: What Are you playing on?
No where near some of the specs here, but I've never had any issues.
Not too crazy here. It's been a couple years since I built this one.
Core 2 Quad 2.5ghz
8 GB gskill ddr3
Nvidia 1GB DDR5 GTS450
2 1TB drives
2 500GB drives
I have built quite a few systems with this http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php/products/workstation.html , now replaced with the corsair http://www.corsair.com/en/cpu-cooling-kits/hydro-series-water-cooling-cpu-cooler/hydro-series-h60-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler.html
If your not going crazy with your over clocking this will do well.

Yeah, my rig is overkill and I'm not upgrading it for at least the next three years or something.
Cool! I'll have a check and see the cooling systems. No I don't OC at all. I let it clock and use turbo boost 2.0 by itself. I don't want to 'accidentally' fry the cpu. O.o

I know exactly how you feel... My computer may be good, but my internet is like dial-up... No actually... The amount of 'kick' i get from my internet is like attaching a string to my computer and having a banana at the other end. O_O It's useless lol. I really need to move houses. :/
nice specs though. I'm loving the thought of an 18.4 inch laptop. (inlove) lol. (I think my girlfriend would be unhappy if she read my comments here. )

Re: What Are you playing on?
on a laptop currently:
nvidia 330 equivalent (built in with shared memory 1GB)
4GB ram (3GB effective)
dual core + HT i5 2.8GHz (2 cores; 4 threads)
22 inch 1.6:1 LCD monitor
that will change in a few days to something like:
32GB ram @ 1600
6-core + HT i7 3.8GHz (6 cores; 12 threads) - http://ark.intel.com/products/63697
nvidia 660 2GB
quad crossfire supported mainboard (sad i can't use it, but give it a year or two and ill shove 3 more 660's in there ) - http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4050
possibly this one though for 64GB of ram... http://www.asus.com.au/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_2011/P9X79_LE/
edit - i thought of going for a higher end 680/690, though i honestly could not tell apart performance of 6600GT and 6800 series in the day...

i have heard a few anecdotal issues across the board with 5xx series - go for 600/700 series.howrealistic wrote:Vanity that rigs a beast! I'm jealous! Re: What Are you playing on?
so... i learned that you can't actually use quad sli/crossfire... the cards that support 'quad-sli' are actually just dual sli with dual-core GPU cards (still taking up 2 PCE slots) which is severely model limited... regular cards dont seem to go beyond triple-sli...
so yeah, new rig will have an i7 3930K processor, 32GB of ram (64 once 16g sticks are available to me), GA-X79-UD3 motherboard, and a GTX 660Ti (model N66TWF2-2GD)

Mine is sort of a black metal box.. it is some what irregularly shaped with lots of dents in it..
they seem to match the shape of my knuckles. I might have made them, I'm not sure... there was
so much screaming and crying.. and the blood... THE BLOOD....
It all seems so long ago and I feel calmer these days, now that I don't play moonbreakers....
