You may have noticed my sudden interest in CTF.

Let's get this real straight from the word go, its not my favourite mode, but it gets a very bad rap in the community. "Veto CTF plz" in the chatbox... you know the deal....

Why don't people just take the mode for what it is, just another way to play the game.

It can be just as much fun as the other modes.... if you've been chased by a dozen or so enemy, trusting your teamies to pick them off, doing your damndest to avoid the incoming fire... you will see that its an exhilarating mode... in some ways more so than CA and S&D (why do I always think S&M.... hmmm a little inappropriate!)

but one thing players need to note....

It's not about 1 person do the flag thing and the rest hang around at base side, tagging all the enemy on approach. Instead do some of that, dare I say it "Teamwork", it really works. 3 or 4 ships going in together can usually get the flag and defend it at least part of the way back... using the 4x400 relay approach taking over when the carrier gets iced.

So I ask of you just one thing.....
"Don't just VETO... GIVE IT A GO!"

Glad to see somebody else with some positive feedback on CTF!

I wrote this a while back when Jazzycat asked for some advice on CTF, and while it's not my favorite MoonBreakers game mode, it's in my top three...Wink

Wolfski is right; give it a chance and try for the flag!

if not for those goddamn phanthers CTF would be fun... but when you are the only jerk defending and then comes some dude with a flying tank on steroids by the time (IF) you managed to shot him down he is in the middle and an entire swarm of sidewinders and V66s are coming to get your flag and give you an intergalactic wedgie

CTF is pretty fun to play in my opinion, but it's not easy to play.

It took me quite a bit of practice and upgrading just to be able to approach a carrier, let alone grab the flag off of it and gain any distance at all.

Carrying the flag isn't easy either. Flag carriers are instant targets (for obvious reasons) and get slowed down. Getting slowed down sucks in general, but for a new/casual player who is flying a Mamba that hasn't been upgraded or whatever the neatest ship of the week is, it's a death sentence.

CTF is a fun game type, but it really isn't well suited for players who haven't picked a ship, learned how to fly it, and spent some cred to upgrade it.

You hit the nail on the head here. Out of the 3 modes its the one that benefits most from team/tactical play... something that is sorely lacking in the higest percentile of the flyers out there...

I really feel like a revamped social system might help CTF a bit. The roles could be decided on or doled out (Defense/ Center/ Moving Target Razz ) prior to the start of the game or more effective over the course.

I tend to relegate myself to defense in CTF since, a bunch of the time, everyone just kinda zips off into space. Which is fine with me, but it can get to be like a risk management class from hell. It's overwhelming to be bombarded by Panthers, light fighters and the occasional Swordfish without a practical way to scream for help while everyone is mixing it up who knows where. If I take a second to chat for help, I'm either blowing up or letting some threat go unanswered for too bloody long. Heck, I would be happy if I could assign team-only chat macros through the options menu. Just that might go a long way towards helping to organize offense and defense in matches across the board.

Regardless, I really enjoy CTF, I'd like to see the veto cries die out.

that would surely change CTF a lot, no more suicide runs, flag runner are going to need escort, CTF would require more coordination i like the idea of returning the flag

*sigh* CTF started out with flag returns which got wiped out due to complaints, but I think the issue was that it was a teleporting flag return, not manual return.

Manual return would much better and make more sense. Having the flag drift back towards the home carrier after it's dropped instead of teleporting after 30 seconds also makes sense.

(every time I type now, I hear the sad text to speech voice from Vent...)

The more I think of it, the more I like the idea of a slow moving, self-returning flag. It'd start moving as soon as it was dropped, and all the team that owns it can do is escort. Should use a collision-avoidance AI taking the shortest route to the flag platform. Just need to keep it from entering the hangar...

trolls are going to be a mayor issue i suggest to keep the teleport but it should be time activated for example a friendly ship touch the flag and that starts a countdown like the torpedo arming once this countdown is done the flag teleports also the friendly ship should stand over his flag for this countdown to proceed

even better, a 10 second flag-bearer destruct explosion that starts counting down the minute you begin flying away from the flag dropoff point & only resets when you start flying towards it again.

Manual return would be great, but should slow the bearer down much more than it slows enemies. Make it a bit of work to return that sucker - and reward the player who does it too. I can see a problem though - if the flag stays red, everyone will shoot at their team-mate again as he lugs the flag back Smile

These are good ideas.

Change a returning flag to a different colour; flashing yellow should work.

I like that idea. It shows that your team can defend the flag in space. The more defenders, the quicker it teleports back.

Is anyone passing IMBA any of these interesting options....
Perhaps a vote on which suggestions have community preference.....
