idea: create challenges that we can then use to show off as titles.

eg, reach a 1000 bounty in a mamba...
defend carrier by shooting 10 torpedoes with a beam in one round... etc...

already have one for beam specialist 'pinpoint' title - shoot down both A80 missiles with only beams (any beam ship).

another one for brawl specialist - using any ship, go up against 2 players using the same ship and win against both in 1 vs 2 odds.

could have a lot of fun with this...

edit - basically, steam achievements like you would see in FPS games, but worthwhile ones, not just trivial retarded 'everyone is a winner' stuff like 'die from an asteroid impact'.

Yeah, this would be cool.

Maybe, there could be one like "Get ten kills on one life", "Destroy x number of turrets", or something like that.

If I may, Ship specialist achievements would probably be a cool idea. To get them, you'd need to get, let's say, 100 kills while flying a particular ship.

Weapon specialist achievements could be gained by making x kills with a particular weapon.

The two above achievements could be put under a special 'offense' category.

When you talk about that 'pinpoint' title, I think that the achievement could go under a possible 'defense' category.

Whatever we come up with, it'll have to have clear goals. I've seen too many achievements that aren't exactly clear on what you need to do, which frustrates people when they can't seem to get the achievement.

Well, there are quite a few of us that can make the mamba claim to fame from the example already xD

Still, a worthwhile endeavor.

the anger, i'm not sure if this is possible or if i'm just remembering wrongly..but i tink there was once i took out both missles from an A80 with a single beam from my M10. i'm not sure, but i tink it's possible to take both out at the same time rite after he gets the lock on you

correct me if i'm wrong, i'm not 100% sure it was my beam that took it out

That sounds about right; once they've locked onto you, it's very likely that the twin missiles will nearly overlap in their flight path. I find this is quite common for any kind of flight/space game where you can fire 2 or more missiles simultaneously.

Also, I'll claim a few turret achievements Smile
Turret Rampage; 8 turret destruction messages with your name visible in the event log at the same time.
Turret Speedrun; 16 turrets destroyed before the clock reaches 12:30 (Sidewinder on any)
Turret Hyperdrive; 16 turrets destroyed before the clock reaches 13:00 (Stingray on Broadsides)

beams are not like quake railgun that goes through everything. beams are like cannon shells - they damage the first and only the first thing they impact. one beam can take out one missile only. (perhaps they were exploding on their own and beam shot coincided? happens more often than you'd think)

vs A80 it means firing two beams on two tiny moving targets before they reach you.

re offense / defense... probably no need to go that far in depth... keep it to weapon / ship / map / game mode / misc categories for simplicity - game's not complex enough for an offense / defense category.

so pinpoint is a beam achievement, an though it is more defensive in practice, you'll need to bear in mind that an offensive tactic vs A80 (or any high dps / alpha ship, which there are many of) is always going to be defense-oriented. it's too blurry for my taste to define as strictly defense or strictly offense, so if possible id avoid labeling achievements that way unless it has to do with shunning defense or offense altogether. (eg, defending a carrier from all torpedoes, you personally got all of them and no impacts to your carrier as a result; or the flipside, landing 15 torpedoes without taking out any turrets first, etc...)

I wish it could. Yes, up to the devs to integrate steam achievements (and define them), but we all know the prospects of devs doing anything...

what if you bump a bomber to death with a sidewinder? the fleahump award?

edit - these are starting to sound like worms "achievements" in multiplayer games (silly in every way, worms had silly awards for having large numbers, such as worm that got the most medkits, worm that got the most kills... worm that got blasted off the map the furthest... etc)

I played the hell out of the Worms Armageddon demo back when I was in my teens; this was before I had enough money to buy a full copy lol
