do you still play?
the topic name speaks for itself... I play on every other day routine, and I found myself mostly in teams about 3-5 players (yesterday was exception, we played in teams about 10 players), and in fact I meet still the same ppl - debbie, shoota, and some others. but most of the ppl I know from moths back are not shown at all - WHERE ARE YOU GUYS? why do you not play? MB its still fun, at least for me...
just to be sure, i'm talking about EU server. When I hit another server in the time I play (6-10 CET), I'm usually alone in the lobby

Re: do you still play?
i avoid the EU server - its hard to have a server any further from me.
im on now and then, every other day... not using my usual name though as servers never seem to fill up when i do
if you do happen to wonder onto USW/USE/AUS im flying as 'xerenarcy'... though if you want a challenge you'll need to get me in the mood...

Re: do you still play?
I fly when I can, which isn't as often as I'd like.
Played more in the last couple weeks than I had for all of January.

Re: do you still play?
im one of those who stopped playing, mostly because a lack of time and economic problems which derived in a general lack of willingness to play anything at all
also for me, the last patch screwed gameplay, ships are faster but the bullets have the same speed, sometimes i feel like bullets are being thrown with your hand instead of being fired by a gun...

I have a week on week off schedule. When I work I'm physically gone from my home and too busy to break away for a quick game. But, when I'm home I'll log on for a few games. Usually before noon eastern time.
Jack, you are sorely missed. You were a true terror in game, and one I liked testing myself against. If the fast plane, slow bullet thing bothers you, just think of those early supersonic jets. I don't have numbers, but I know many shot themselves down without thinking that they were flying faster then the bullets they were shooting.

Re: do you still play?
I still play a bit, though I'm in New Zealand so my time (+12 UTC) is probably a bit funny. But I tend to play weekend evenings.
Re: do you still play?
I main on US West, but I've recently been gravitating towards the epicness that is Star Conflict.
For me, Moon Breakers is becoming the game that I play for nostalgic purposes. It's sorta like those people who play PONG just to relive childhood memories...

i miss the dogfights too but im so busy lately that i stopped playing all online games:(
as for the historic info, damn what kind of guns or ammo they were using? i mean seriously bullets slower than early supersonic planes? i wonder how they managed to solve the problem with planes like the F22 and the eurofighter typhoon
still i miss the old patch it was well balanced between piloting and aiming now its too fast for my taste and my psychomotor disorder

Re: do you still play?
Rarely ever play. When I do servers are often thinly populated with uneven teams & rampant newbie bashing, and I can't stomach it for long.
By comparison War Thunder has thousands of players, 24 hours a day, with more coming when it hits Steam ... and bullets are fast rather than MB's garden-hose speed. I loved MB when the players I knew were online, Vent was humming & DMH were a daily presence, but as things stand now there's no contest over which game I'd rather spend time in :\

The muzzle velocity of older 20mm rounds was a lot lower then the 20mm shells they use now, but the big difference is the training that pilots get now. According to my ex-military pilot friends, they didn't put a lot of thought into supersonic gunnery until they figured out that it was a self inflicted problem. Then they solved it the U.S. military way, spent millions of dollars studying the problem then just put big restrictions on the pilots about when and how they could use their gun.

Re: do you still play?
I'm not on as much as I used to be... but a number of the other reapers are pretty frequent flyers....
We do try to have a bit of a get together on the EU server on Saturday evenings but that can be a bit hit and miss depending on peoples availability.
We had a pleasant couple of games only yesterday where there were 3 reapers on one side and 3 praetors (Abs, Ferc and GoldenWiz) [you know it might have been 4??] beer induced poor memory sorry if i missed anyone out!!!! ... takes me back to when it was hard to find a game without a squad guy playing.
It would be nice to find a way to tease people back into playing and I am actively still recruiting regular players to fly tagged in an effort to keep the game afloat and the community ticking over. I know it may be a losing battle but this is still a great fun game and still worth investing some time in.
If any of you lot are about on Saturdays drop in on the EU server and see if there is a space party on the go...
respect

and the sad part is that nearly nobody uses the cannons in dogfights today, its all about locking on target and launching your missiles i do think maybe the dogfights are going to change if they implement better countermeasures or energy weapons on planes like lasers, i still wonder why nobody uses those, they have a very long range the speed of the beam its nearly instantaneous and they could act as an excellent anti missile device

Restriction is mostly in the size of power plant a plane can carry; lasers powerful enough to be useful as weapons are 4MW and up and take up a lot of space.
Re: do you still play?
and what about as a countermeasure system? i mean how hard can it be to heat an AA missile and make it explode before it reaches its target?

Here's what a countermeasure laser would look like today;
This requires a tracking system and some sustained fire to burn through the hull of an incoming missile and enough internal components to disable/destroy it. Lasers are simply too big and power-hungry right now for practical use on anything smaller than a ship or base.
Give it a couple years
Re: do you still play?
don't know were but some years ago i heard the air force was planning to use lasers aboard the C130s though only for missile interception
this may sound crazy but what if they use dynamos conected to the turbines just to power the lasers? that at least would solve the power problem
as for the size i think the problems comes with the power supply, you can turn a small laser pointer into a burning laser with 2 AA batteries yet a handheld burning laser made for that purpose has the same size of a handgun:S

I think then the missiles would simply be built to withstand lasers. e.g. by using a very reflective surface.Viking Jack wrote:and what about as a countermeasure system? i mean how hard can it be to heat an AA missile and make it explode before it reaches its target?

maybe at least that would make them insanely expensive or slower/heavy enough to outmaneuver them

Re: do you still play?
So it turns out that this game isn't dead and that people do actually still play on US West. :D
Recently had the fortune of playing several matches with 4~5 other aces at the same time, something that hasn't happened for 6~7 months now. Of course, I got my ass handed to me for the most part, but I like a good bit of cherry picking data and dickwaving on occasion and so will post a screenshot of the Praetorians beating Dead Man's Hand silly, if only just barely. It still counts as silly even if it was just barely a win, I think.
Two Prætors versus two DMH and a fairly skilled ringer. There might have been several rounds where Anger raped us silly with his Nighthawk, but I conveniently forgot to take screenshots of those games. v:

No, I think to wrapping them into a reflective Aluminium foil should be sufficient.Viking Jack wrote:Abstractness wrote:I think then the missiles would simply be built to withstand lasers. e.g. by using a very reflective surface.Viking Jack wrote:and what about as a countermeasure system? i mean how hard can it be to heat an AA missile and make it explode before it reaches its target?
