Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
There comes a time in a star-fighter Pilot's life when the adrenaline pumping action and the lucid turmoil of constant battling, the wild star junkie drug fuelled heathen crazed orgies of party heaven, and the constant alcoholism - becomes almost... tiresome.
A star-fighter pilot feels the need to... Settle down lets say. To let the scars of war heal. To find a good, honest and wholesome partner to procreate with. One who doesn't mind the constant drinking, the wandering eyes. The wandering hands. One who isn't blue and bendy.
Some years later Swarve Junior climbs into his fathers star-fighter for the first time and gives it a whirl, under a watchful eye. He explores the broken moon, the asteroids. He takes pot shots at the enemy carrier and joy fills his eyes. He takes down his first squadron of space scum and then there is no turning back.
So here is the dilemma...
Swarve is having issues with seeing his kid crashing his ship.
Seeing newbie space turds shooting up his Krait and blowing up a 5 year old kid instead of the prize they are after.
Powerless, Marvin watches [TP]s and [DMHS]s taunt him, yet is powerless to retaliate.
*It would be nice to get on my computer too.*
A) Do I Continue letting the Swarvling use my ships.
B) Do I get him a Steam account and force him to earn his own ships. (Swarve saves his money for booze)
C) Do I rename my Steam account for him and start again from scratch myself. (There will be sadness if he can't fly the FH250)
D) Or finally... Just change the password on my PC. Lock the office door. Tape up his fingers.
Your thoughts/suggestions?
Marvin Swarve Out.
(but not out of whiskey)

Lol! Oh wow... if you go option A, switch to a different nickname whenever he's playing so he doesn't get targeted un-nessarily.
I'd go option B if it were my kid...

A) ... only if you have no regard for your reputation, which you do...
B) If not C...
C) Change your steam name just for when he is on (idk, use different brackets for tag, for example?) - anyone who pays attention on the forums will learn to tell the names apart and no harm done. If anything Swarve Jr will get a first class teaching experience from the peeps here.
D) Never worked for me, but who knows - duct tape is pretty strong nowdays...
my 2c anyways

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
Thank you pilots but...
Tark Swarve is 5.
When Marvin is slumbering in a drink induced coma, he won't be changing the steam name by himself.
Unless there is a batch process for this, we need to be thinking more 'user friendly'.

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
Ah...
Frankly I wouldn't let a 5y/o on steam... bad crowd for 90% of the populace n all. So definitely not an option to give him his own account just yet.
That leaves you with supervised-only sessions, or if coma's are a common occurrence perhaps change steam name permanently to what Jr will use, and change it temporarily for yourself?

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
Honestly given your requirements I think the anger's last suggestion is probably the most effective if not the most elegant solution.

Agreed.
Also, SuperKen lets his two kids fly on his account, so you might want to ask him how he manages the situation.
(Loki is interested in this thread too, since his 2 year old son will soon be interested...)
Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
This seems like the best tactic Marv, and "Swarve Jnr" is just too cute, hahaha! We'll know it's you when you're in vent and using your regular name.the-anger wrote:That leaves you with supervised-only sessions, or if coma's are a common occurrence perhaps change steam name permanently to what Jr will use, and change it temporarily for yourself?

Cook it and eat it! Human larvae tastes best with some good BBQ sauce.

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
I let both my Three year old and six year old play on my account. I personally don't care if someone sees my account really sucking LOL. Cuz I know with a few exceptions I'll come over there and whoop your butt when its my turn...
Let them play, who cares what anyone thinks, it all about your kids' admiration for you

just don't let the 3yo play if you have 4k He-3 saved up, mine bought a 4x boost for 30 days rather than the ships I was hoping to get.

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
of course the advantage of letting your kid use your username is that if you completely suck in a game you can blame it all on them

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
The Swarvling spent Daddy's hard earned credits on a 'less than ideal' Bomber.
He also got the M3 some time back, while I was saving for a Merlin. The initial emotional response was unwarrented since Marv now enjoys zappies.
I think Marvin will side with SuperKen's relaxed/realistic parenting approach.
Less work and less stress.
Also since the Youngen took out his first carrier yesterday (taught Marv a new bombing run) and then had a 14 kill score taking out a few of you TPs. I shall not worry too much about the rep.

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
Sounds like the Marvling should be the one we watch out for, which begs the question - who is it that's joined TP - Swarve Snr or Jnr?

Re: Marvin Swarve's Dilemma
Sounds like you've got it all worked out!
If you'd brought up the accidental purchase to WJ on the Userecho forum, he probably would've undone the purchase and returned your creds for you...
I wouldn't be disappointed with the Cobra, though...
