PlanetSide 2
Okay. I've heard a few space-dogfighters mentioned on this forum, but nobody seems interested in branching out to other genres, so I'm gonna be the first.
Planet Side 2 is a FPS where you have three factions fighting for control of the planet: Terran Republic, New Conglomerate, and Vanu Sovereignty. Each faction has it's own distinct color scheme, ideology, even gameplay style.
Terran Republic has a red and white color scheme, with an emphasis placed on rate of fire, at the expense of reload speed. The Terran Republic's fighter is focused on speed, which gives it worse handling than the other two. The TR ideology involves a militaristic, totalitarian regime that believes peace can be achieved by controlling what a person does.
The New Conglomerate have a blue and yellow color scheme, and they tend to focus on damage per shot, with reload speed and rate of fire being roughly balanced. The NC fighter reflects this with balanced agility and handling, with harder-hitting guns. The NC values personal freedoms, or the ability to make your own path in the world. This puts them at odds with the Terran Republic.
The Vanu Sovereignty's color scheme is based around teal and purple, and they have the fastest reload speeds in game, but they don't deal as much damage per shot as the other two factions. The VS fighter is the most agile in game, but it's also the slowest. The Vanu are the technophiles of the game, being the most interested in alien technology, and using plasma-based weaponry.
Does anybody else play Planet Side 2, and if so, what's your faction/username/server?
I have a character on each faction, all on the Connery US West server.

Re: PlanetSide 2
I tried to get into this but just couldn't. I'm not sure what it was about it that didn't grab me, or maybe i didn't give it enough time.
I think HL2:DM just ruined me for any other FPS. Much like MB has done. I just can't get that adrenalin rush.
I'll give it another shot if I see you on though.

I play it; I'm with New Conglemerate, FireOfEarth, and...well, I kind of forgot the server. But yeah, it can be fun to play to kill time other than MB...until a tank rolls up in back of you and rolls you over. *sigh*

Dude. You only have one character? I have three that I play: One for each faction.
I kind of forgot the server.
Really? You couldn't spend ten seconds to check the server?
until a tank rolls up in back of you and rolls you over
I know an easy way to avoid this: Look at the map, and if they're stealthed, listen for the sound of the engine. Also listen for dopplering.

Re: PlanetSide 2
Tried it only a couple of times. First time it dropped my noob character into the midst of a pitched battled and I died where I stood in nano-seconds. Second time I was back at home base, and after half an hour of futzing around & checking Google (and ignoring frantic messages from my squad - what squad?!?) I actually managed to get about an aircraft and take off (all I wanted to do was fly). I had no idea where I was or where I was supposed to go, what buttons controlled what ... was trying to figure it out when the game yelled at me for flying somewhere forbidden, whatever that means.
This game assumes a ton of fore-knowledge & made me feel like an old geezer learning to check email for the first time. No thanks
