Not true anymore. I'd actually say the Stingray is close to the best heavy fighter now. Needs a new nickname.

I call the G5 The Get Away Car. With its huge afterburner fuel tank, it will get you away from trouble makers and A-80 missle spammers in a hurry. It is also good for chasing people into their own carrier when they run like little girls.

Played it a bit last night. I actually like it now, it's insane against turrets and bomber and I LOVE how drifty it is. Like the bigger nastier mamba.

Stingray is a great name already. Worthy of it now.

Agreed. I'd like a little more fuel in the tank, but it's otherwise pretty decent. Haven't had a repeat of my first flight in one, though...

A LITTLE more fuel? The thing only gets 3 seconds of boost. It needs 5 at least.

Still needs a nickname. Stingray doesn't cut it, not when there's the Justice Bus, the Dinner Plate, the Honey Badger...

When it comes to ship names my favourite are the ones in Iain M Banks' Culture series of novels. One of the types is a Thug class which would suit my A-80 nicely...

Hmm. How about the Postman or the Mailman - it comes knocking with that slow cannon & it delivers messages from far away.

Well now that the Stingray is a little beefier, let's just call it "Bambam" as in the Flintstones Razz

It also kinda fits with the sound of it's cannon, so...yeah.

I also think the Krait needs a nickname. I think the "Laser Pointer" is fitting, only because when you see a beam of light arc by, everyone immediately Sh*t's themselves and starts looking around all crazy like cats on a laser pointer.

A80 is already the Honey Badger...

How about;
The Hulk
Boomer

...though I am partial to Longshot's suggestion for The Fist.

Also, Kobold, if you're not already on Ventrilo, you should get on there...

After watching grant run flags in a busy CTF game I have a new nickname for the panther; the "Pay to Win"

Not good rep for the game, but as over powered as Panthers apparently still are, an all panther squadron remains virtually inevitable. On that grim day i'll be finding another game, & I doubt i'll look back fondly.

I prefer Boomer - that's what I'll call my Stingray from now on anyway Smile

I'd like to see how an all-panther squadron fared against an all-boomer squadron in S&D. I don't think the Panthers would win. CTF's another matter, where the Panther is just one option among several good flag runners (Sidewinder, Viper, Kingfisher, Twolf).

Well, pretty sure it's just me, but I've taken to calling all medium fighters "darts".

They have such pointy noses . . .

I haven't yet unlocked a bomber, and I'm thinking of going T-wolf, if only to avoid being just one more jerk in a panther.

The Mamba is, of course, the "Man's Fighter" In my eyes. It takes some serious cojones to fly, and win anything, in a Mamba, although lately I've been loving it for CTF. It's so whippy Very Happy

I consider the Panther to be substandard to the Timberwolf in every way except shield strength.

The structure of ships and upgrades will change soon, leveling off all the ships and giving them equal purchase prices. You can select any ship as your starter ship, though I don't recommend a bomber to start off in. See here for more details.

I tried chasing a "teen wolf" the other day in a CTF game... the only thing that made it less painful than trying to catch a "pay to win" was that it was actually killable... generaly after chasing it all the way across the map & back in my G5.

Speaking of G5's, I've started calling them "drift kings." kind of a double inside joke for me.

(yeah from VGHS, thats one)
