From what I've been able to find out, the chat box currently in-use on the main-page is native to the forumotion boards as a built-in widget.

It *might* be possible to disable chat and have a custom-widget pointing to the IRC code/display, but searching "IRC" on forumotion leads to zilch results so can't confirm without asking their admin if anyone's tried it (or if it's even allowed/possible).

They might want people using the native chat box for some reason (or people just go with it and don't look any further, free-service c'est la vie mentality, who knows...).

** Another option is for one of the Admins to take Kin's post above and have it as the FIRST POST in a NEW THREAD that's stickied to the MAIN page (roughly where the current chatbox is) and disable the chat-box widget. **

That way people can just open up that forum-thread in a new browser-tab that'll show "MB IRC" so you can see at a glance what it is and don't accidentally close it, especially when there's 10+ tabs open...

I will disable chatbox since nobody is interested in using it.

WE actually do occasionally use it but the timing out thing is annoying.

It's not persistent enough to be particularly useful. I couldn't find a way to extend the timeout on it either.
