I for one can verify that Nightwing is indeed a threat in an F-3

Well see now THERE'S your problem...you got a r4p70rk4m stuck in your exhaust manifold.
That guy's good, but yeah, that's a pretty lousy match, lol.

that was quite fun indeed... remember those old cartoon depictions of a brawl? a puff of smoke moving about the place with various appendages exchanging blows? thats what that furball looked like. an epic swarm of green and red and explosions going off in every direction. constantly.Nightwing wrote:http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=102170153

Yep, was good though one sided (for the last 5 minutes after I joined anyway). Great to see so many skilled pilots at once, should happen more often!

I distinctly remember the pirates having 40 more pilots that game.

No I just respawned alot.
that was a lot of good fun, reminded me of why i need practice and why i loved the game.
I'll definitely be in and out again, but for any one who is interested teh DMh has a scheduled come out and play on thursday nights (reckoned by EST because I'm here and i scheduled it) so if you want to fly with us you can expect at least some of us then.

That isn't just old cartoons... There have been MANY times that I've seen the dust balls in newer cartoons. Hell, I think I once saw a CG rendition at one point...

Wow. I just saw this.
Coming from you, Longshot, that is a big compliment.
I've lost count of how many times you've blasted me outta the sky before I even knew you were there...

My game crashed three times in that match, TWO of them when I was carrying the flag!

It's always painful when you look at the Flag Pickups stat and only see one or two players with one.

My problem was that my game crashed AS I was carrying the flag...
Basically, because of a stupid system error, my team lost...

In CTF I like to take out turrets, making it more possible to new pilots to get to the carrier.

I do that too... I don't consider carrier defenses properly "softened" until the two side turrets on the same side as the flag, as well as the six top turrets are destroyed...
That's why I don't try to grab the flag in CTF for the first few minutes of the match...
If I accidentally grab the flag, I'll turn and burn to run it as far as possible. Unfortunately, I'm usually killed partway, but I still consider it a success because it provides more of a chance for noobs to retrieve the flag, unless the enemy is camping it. In those cases, even aces can have difficulty running the flag...
Re: Now I don't want to say that fight was one-sided...
I never have problems picking up the flag when it is somewhere in the middle of the map, and a bunch of guys are camped around it (unless there is one really good ace with a FM25). The secret is to not approach in a straight line, Jink like the paint job on your fighter depends on it (because it does). Then, fly in the direction they don't think you'll go. The fastest way to your carrier is not in a straight line, it involves a corkscrew path around the most cover and sometimes backtracking. Trust me on this, fortune favors the bold, be aggressive and go after that flag with a vengeance.

fascinating... unfortunately such a direction just doesnt exist given the context, lol... when you have the flag there is only one place you could be heading in, and that's enough. even if there are a million ways to the destination, so long as you have a destination, your flight path can be predicted - often the harder one tries to make their path difficult to follow, the longer the path must be and the more boost it will take to fly there, and a knowledgeable pilot will intercept you 90% of the time without a substantial head start...
the most effective path with the flag is cover-to-cover-to-cover. doesn't have to be fancy, but so long as youre not in direct line-of-sight of your pursuers youre as safe as you would be anywhere else on the map (between the carriers at least) - on broken moon you can run through the outer asteroids with 0 boost and still evade those chasing you, you just need to be quick to jump from cover to cover.
actually ill take the first part back, there is such a thing as unpredictable direction in ctf but ONLY if youre not being watched doing it (even if they can follow the flag marker they can't see the asteroids you're flying around, resulting in often hilarious collisions)...

Re: Now I don't want to say that fight was one-sided...
I'll argue a little here. I'm rarely the top killer in S&D, I can't fly a bomber to save my ass in CA. But, when it comes to running away, I rank up there with the best.
If a bunch of guys are parked around the flag in the middle of the map. They expect you to pick it up and turn around to fly straight to your carrier. When you turn in front of them, they have the advantage. If you fly behind them, most of the time they will turn around to follow you, this give you a little bit of a head start, and an advantage.
Yes cover to cover is the key, but usually you run out of boost and sometimes your pursuer still has some. This is when they get line of sight, and you are in trouble. Fancy flying will save you here. You can't bank to sharply because you'll bleed off speed. You need to make small changes to your heading to throw off his aim. The closest cover is where he is expecting you to go. That is the direction he will start leading his bullets, that is when you bank to the second closest cover and hope it throws him off. This pays off big sometimes, sometimes it leads to you turning into a puffy grey cloud.
The most important thing though, carrying the flag while six guys are chasing you is a huge rush. I love being one of the guys who carries the flag. Help me out here, it's great fun!

I know the feeling MJ I used to tell people more or less the same thing when they asked me how I made so many flag runs.

That was a beautiful game!
I kinda surprised myself, though: This was the first EVER match where I've flown a Nighthawk the whole time...

Nice. More and more people will discover the power of the FM25. It's really a shame I can't stand it.
